Chlorine burns off faster once the water gets hot
Once water temperature climbs past 80°F, UV starts burning chlorine off faster than a weekly dose can offset. A pool that looked fine all winter can go cloudy, then green, in the space of a few days. Most of the green pool recoveries we run start in these weeks.
Storms bring more than rain
Heavy afternoon storms, common from June through November, dilute sanitizer, swing pH, and wash phosphates and organic matter in from the surrounding yard. Rain plus heat is the fastest route to a green pool in South Florida. A neglected pool can turn in under 48 hours after a big system.
If a named storm is coming, do not drain the pool
The water's weight is what keeps the shell in place; an empty pool can float or crack in saturated ground. Shock the water ahead of the storm, cut power to the pump, and cover or bring in loose equipment and furniture. Afterward: skim, clean the baskets, run the filter through a full cycle, and rebalance.
Opening a vacation or seasonal home for the season
If a pool has been sitting since last year, it needs more than a shock treatment before anyone gets in. A pool startup deep cleans the filter and pump, brushes the tiles and walls, and balances the chemistry from scratch.
